The Naslunds aren't known for being punctual; however, we like to cut it close...very close! Some friends were in town for Easter, so we decided to take the kids down to Riverfront Park egg hunt (along with the rest of Spokane). The hunt was slated to start at noon, so we met along the way and arrived downtown at 11:59. The guys dropped off the girls and the babies. As we neared the 0-2 year old area of the hunt, I froze with laughter. A dad was yanking his 6 month old into the middle of the patch only to grab an unknown DVD with an egg taped to it. The hunt lasted 30 seconds. Maddie's 1st hunt. She didn't get a SINGLE egg! Before you feel too bad for her, take a look at the following pictures. We had an action packed weekend, which focused on the real reason for our celebrations, Christ's resurrection from the tomb, opening the gates of heaven for you and me.
We went to a great Good Friday Service which completed a great Lent season. We love going to the Wednesday soup suppers during Lent. Fellow Lutherans provide great company. Following the dramatic crucifixion of Christ, we celebrated Miriam's (whom my mom hosts from Kenya during her studies at Whitworth. More on that later) birthday at the Onion. Miriam was a great sport and did the flamingo, which is when the birthday guy/girl puts the birthday hat on their nose and makes a bird noise. Maddie also had her first french fry, which was a riot. She welled up in tears after we had to take away the mushy mess of chewed up fry. We might post pics at some point; however, we will have to wait until Grammie gets her film developed. Yes, you read that correctly:) Gotta love Grammie.
Saturday brought us the drama of the egg hunt downtown and a great ride on the Loofe Carousel, which has been in Spokane since 1909. Jeff spotted the giraffe and said, "Maddie needs to ride on the giraffe, because she is one." Poor girl...she can't get away from giraffes. Good thing they are cute! After the fun ride, we went to Maddie's friend Nicholas' new house to help them move in.
Today, we went to church for Easter Breakfast, then attended a great service. After service we had our own egg hunt. In this one, Maddie, Claire, and Auntie Anna all got eggs...don't worry, we didn't go completely P.C., because we all love to compete. We did all get eggs, though:) We took a very necessary nap after the hunt, then back to Grammie's for an amazing ham dinner.
